Sufism

The role of Sufism in the spread of Islam and the contribution made by them to the development of Muslim culture is of very great significance. With the pious mission of the true faith of Islam, numerous Sufi saints and preachers of Arabia, Syria, Samarkand, and Bukhara came to India in an early period of Muslim rule in India from 1000 to 1150.

Role of Sufis 

Sufism appealed to the religious because of its insistence upon a deep emotional attachment to god the Sufis set an example of the piety of indifference to reach a power of service to the spiritually starved and the materially un privileged of deep sympathy for the mass of the people and of saintly behavior there influence there for was wide separated and turn to them for the satisfaction of on their spiritual yearning their influence on philosophy and poetry was profound.

Sufism in India

After the conquest of northern India by the Muslims various Sufi orders were established in the country, in particular, the Chishti and the Suhrawardy order took root in different parts of India and there developed extensive activities of these two orders. Moreover, other famous orders like Qadiri and the naqsbandi were also represented and functioned more or less on the same lines.

Chishti Order of Sufism 

 Founded by Khawjah Abdal Chishti (966 AD) was introduced in India by Khawjah Muinuddin Chisti (1236).he came to India a little before the invention of Muhammad Gohri in the last part of the 12 century AD and acquired great renowned and was given the title of sultana hind, spiritual king of India.

Khowaja Muinuddin Chisti arrived in India in 1990ad and first proceeded to Lahore which was a center of Islamic learning since the time of M.ghazni Lahore he spent the rest of his life after the death of Khawaja Muinuddin in1234ad  his numerous disciple in continued his apostolic work at Ajmer and other parts of India the Chisti order played an important role in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the whole Bengal included present Bangladesh and Assam the great Sufi of this order, shaikh Nizamuddin aulia (1236_ 1325ad) generally know as murabba _illahi (the beloved of god ) represent a great spiritual force in the history of Muslim India. His personality and the breadth of his religious outlook assured the popularity of the Chishti order in India. His disciples spread all over the country.

The suhrawardy order(1145) 

Is also one of the oldest Suf orders that were introduced in India shaikh dhahabuddin suhrawardy  (1145_1234 AD ) the eminent mater of this order, had directed several of his disciples like Shaikh Bahauiddin Zakaria Multani (1266ad) it shaikh  Jalaluddin Tabrizi It (It 1225ad It) and it other to proceed to India to launch their propagation program in different parts of India. The credit for organizing the Sahrawady order in North _western  India goes to Shaikh Zakaria who chose Multaan as the center of his activity and Eastern India to Shaikh Tabrazi, who did extensive work and won a reputation in the entire eastern regions of   India including Assam.

Naqishbandi

The other most outstanding sufi order introduced in India the naqishbadis received the patronage of Babur the founder of the Mughal empire in India, which may have helped the establishment of the order in India by Muhammad Baqibillah (1563_ 1603)in the region of Akbar.

Qadiriyya order (1077)

Which was founded in Iraq by the Hanbali mystic, Abdul Qadir Al Jilani (1077 _1166) was first introduced in India by Muhammad Ghawt, who established a hospice at Uch in 1482aid the followers of the Qadiriyya order were generally tolerated of the non-Muslim and this attitude greatly helped them to Carry on their missionary work among the Hindu and other communities of India.
